Feeling the Burn

Moon is in Taurus + it's Jupiter's day: Trigger warning—I'm mad & sad as hell about the sitch in So Cal.

it's thursday, january 9, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called krittika. taurus is the sign of our comfort zone, physically, mentally, emotionally; it's our safe place. with fires raging out of control in southern california, 1,000 people have already lost their homes, their safe places, & it is hard to think of anything else, even as i write this, cozy in my home, in my comfort zone, safe & warm, drinking an excellent cup of coffee with homemade almond mylk, my meditation cushion & yoga mat awaiting my presence, my fur babies gamboling about sated with breakfast, my fridge full of greens & ingredients ready to be turned into soup this afternoon. yet another tragedy (like certain wars we're involved in) fomented by hubris & greed & short-sightedness. sigh.

krittika—oi!—is ruled by agni, the primordial deity of fire! this asterism brings a lesson about burning away detritus (see more below!), purifying our existence, whether we do it consciously (the best-case scenario) or not.

it's the eleventh lunar day (tithi), the eleventh phase of the waxing moon, which is when our minds are said to be the least distractable, the least bizzy & buzzy, the most spacious. thus this tithi supports our being the most receptive to, you might say, divine intervention; it's when our spiritual practices are most fruitful, when our prayers (which see below) have the best chance of being answered.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives us hope, as in hope that the devastating fires in so cal will be short-lived. as in hope that the powers that be will finally get it, or be held accountable until they are forced to, & that water & brush policies will finally be put into place & prevail. i'm sorry, but why isn't it mandatory that brush be cleared around houses & especially around power lines? why are some hydrants trickling rather than gushing water?! why have people's fire insurance policies been dropped?! why did our lame-duck president fly in to babble inappropriately about his latest grandchild & thus close down airspace to crucial firefighting aircraft?! why did l.a.'s mayor slash the fire budget last year & dash to ghana knowing fire danger was high AF?!

TL;DR

being in our comfort zone while many have none. • purification by, um, fire. • it’s a good day to pray like you-know-what. • hope, a great good counterpart to praying.
