Happiness Is an Inside Job
Moon is in Virgo + it's Moon's day: "Fullkominn" is the Icelandic word for "perfection"; Thich Nhat Hanh poses a question.
it's monday, january 20, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace (pie slice of virgo sky) called chitra. virgo vibrates with the frequency of perfectionism; it's where we want to make sure we dot all our i's, cross all our t's. it's also where, if we miss one dot or cross, we beat ourselves up, make ourselves feel less than, terribly, irreversibly, shamefully flawed, unworthy. how's about thinking of perfection as showing up in full presence to do whatever we have to do & doing it to the fullness of our ability? in fact, in icelandic, the word for perfection is "fullkominn." no translation necessary!
chitra is the star of creation & transformation, of imagination & practicality, of the useful & the beautiful. ruled by tvashtar, the cosmic architect, who famously designed & constructed rama's flying chariot, who wrought form out of the vastness, the darkness of nothingness, this asterism invites us to do the same & reminds us that we are ultimately our most useful & beautiful creation & that our creation is a continual transformation & involves polishing our dark bits until they & we shine like jewels, for chitra does, after all, mean "bright" or "beautiful."
it's the seventh lunar day (tithi), the seventh phase of the waning moon, which brings a quality of "dhriti," which can be translated as "courage," "steadiness," "self-command," as in not letting the mind run amok & be the boss of us but rather being its master. it is also related to indra, who had great courage & steadiness of purpose but also, um, let it go to his head, was unable to keep his ego in check. think humility, think selfless service.
monday is ruled by moon, planet of peace & joy, of happiness, all of which are inside jobs, all of which depend on us doing our work. & if we do do it prevents us from being triggered by others, or by external events (like, for example, the inauguration of a certain president), prevents codependency, allowing others to be the cause of our happiness or our unhappiness.
"if we don't have peace & joy right now, how can we have peace & joy tomorrow, or after tomorrow? what is preventing us from being happy right now?"—thich nhat hanh
are we going to give up our power & wait for someone else to spark our joy, let someone else harsh our high? the choice is ours, always ours!
TL;DR
how’s about thinking of perfection as showing up in full presence & doing whatever as fully as you can? • we are our own most useful & beautiful objects, & a work in progress—keep it going!. • be the master of you mind. • we, not anyone else, are responsible for our happiness, & unhappiness.
& that’s your daily bliss! IN-joy! 🌗🙏✨
