Realizations Not Resolutions
Moon is in Sagittarius + it's Mars' day: Zoom out to see the big picture, be a warrior for you.
it's tuesday, december 31, & moon is in sagittarius, in the starspace (pie slice of sag sky) called purvashadha until about midday mountain time, then uttarashadha. sagittarius brims with jupiterian hope & wisdom, which come from being able to zoom out & see the big picture. rather than focus, for example, on every little disappointment, under the sway of sagittarius we get to see both our accomplishments & so-called failures as steps along our path to get to where we are now.
purvashadha, where we had the new moon yesterday, invites us to plant new seeds, as we are especially wont to do on a new moon, especially on the precipice of a new year. uttarashadha invites us to water, nurture, coddle, protect, encourage & urge those seeds to germinate, sprout & grow into magnificence.
it's the first lunar day (tithi), the first phase of the waxing moon, so if you're like me, you still might be working on the embodiment of your intentions for this lunar cycle & the new year, might still be pulling up weeds to make space to manifest your heart's desire. keep going!
tuesday is ruled by mars, the spiritual warrior, who gives us the courage to be warriors for ourselves. one way we can do that is by owning our actions (mars loves to take action)—good, bad & maybe ugly.
putting all that together, on this new year's eve i wanted to share an aligned practice that my friend jules febre shared, one that involves realizations rather than resolutions:
• in silence, gather whatever writing implement calls to you, some paper, matches or a lighter, a bowl & a cup of water.
• on each piece of paper write something you did this year that you're proud of. on another write something you regret or that brings grief or sadness. on yet another, a hope or wish or goal for the new year. (you are not limited to one of each!)
• then, at a time that feels right, go outside (if you can) &, one by one, burn each piece of paper, placing them in the bowl, offering each up to the night, to the year that was & the year that will be. (if necessary, use the water to douse the fire.)
swaha!
may all your hopes & dreams be realized in the new year!
TL;DR
hope & wisdom feed each other. • nurture the seeds of your new moon intention. • own your past actions—good, bad & maybe ugly. • a special “out with the old, in with the new” ritual (see above)!
& that’s your daily bliss! IN-joy! 🌑🙏✨
